This qualification is for people who want to work in a retail sales and service environment at an entry level. You will learn how to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, apply safe working practices and perform stock control and point-of-sale procedures. You will also learn how to minimise theft, operate retail technology and organise and maintain work areas.
Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles, such as:
- Providing product and service advice in a retail store
- Selling products and services in variety of retail settings
- Preparing and selling fast food items
- Store, rotate and replenish food stock
- Checking stock and replenishing retail shelves
- Organising and maintaining work areas and displays
- Working effectively and safely in a retail environmen
Delivery of the assessment program occurs on the job, through a combination of employer training and self paced learning activities by the learner and supported by The Training & Business Company. On the job arrangements for this qualification would generally involve the participant putting together a folio of evidence to assist in the demonstration of competence in the workplace.

Qualification Rules Participants must undertake and successfully complete the 7 compulsory core units, plus 5 elective units, thus making a total of 12 units of competency.
Elective units must consist of:
- 3 units from the list below, plus
- 2 further units from the list below, elsewhere in the SIR Retail Services Training Package or any other current training package or accredited course that we have on scope.
The selection of elective units must be guided by the job outcome sought, local industry requirements and the complexity of skills appropriate to the AQF level of this qualification.

How the process works
Our on the job training model works most effectively when a workplace supervisor guides and instructs the participant through work related training and learning. A representative from the Training & Business Company will visit and discuss with you and your supervisor the most appropriate methods of delivery and complete a structured training plan.
Once a training plan has been completed you will receive your resources. Work will then begin on self-paced learning activities in the agreed order. Once both you and your supervisor feel ready, an assessor from the Training & Business Company will arrange a time to visit the workplace to conduct an assessment.
Training on the job will involve a combination of different methods and activities suited to the goals of the business and needs of the participant.
